West Yorkshire Folk Tales

West Yorkshire Folk Tales gathers stories from across the county, linking the open Pennine hills with the neighbourhoods of its industrial towns. John Billingsley presents traditions associated with local places and people, showing how communities have preserved and reshaped their stories over time.

The collection includes accounts of legendary rocks, Robin Hood, tragic love affairs and thwarted villainy, alongside tales involving witches, fairies and hidden treasure. These varied narratives place the folklore of West Yorkshire in a recognisable local landscape, with illustrations by a local artist accompanying the stories.
