British Goblins: The Realm of Faerie

British Goblins: The Realm of Faerie presents Wirt Sikes’s account of Welsh fairy lore, beginning with the Tylwyth Teg and related supernatural beings. Its classifications include the Ellyllon, Pooka, Coblynau or mine fairies, and the household Bwbach, alongside traditions associated with lakes and mountains.

The book also gathers material on changelings, fairy music, fairy rings, gifts and money attributed to fairies, and customs intended to guard against their influence. Sikes combines legends, reported beliefs and explanatory commentary, placing these traditions within a wider discussion of Welsh mythology. The result is a focused record of 19th-century interpretations of faerie, rooted in local stories, names and customary lore.
