About this book
Buckinghamshire Folk Tales gathers stories from across the county, arranging them around south Buckinghamshire, north Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes. The collection brings together accounts of witches, dragons, highwaymen, ghosts, monks and the folkloric Black Dog, alongside legends connected with places including Fingest, Medmenham, Wendover, Wingrave, Quainton, Soulbury and Bernwood.
Its modern edge comes through tales rooted in Milton Keynes, where roundabouts, urban myths, treason and the Gunpowder Plot join older traditions. Other stories include the Vampire of Buckinghamshire, the Green Man of Fingest, Sir John Schorne, the Quainton Thorn and a ghostly guard dog. The material is retold by professional storyteller Terrie Howey, also known as Red Phoenix.
