Haunted Derry gathers reported ghost stories, traditional beliefs and personal testimonies from the city and surrounding County Londonderry. Madeline McCully’s collection includes the Admore Banshee, a ghost associated with the Bog of Lettermuck and a phantom coach said to return to the White Horse Inn every seven years. Accounts connected with Derry Opera House and Rosemount’s By-Wash add urban settings to the collection, while stories from houses and townlands preserve older local lore.
The book also considers death knocks, poltergeist activity and childhood memories of the ‘wee white woman’. Some stories emerged through McCully’s Derry Ghosts project and conversations with local people, combining historical material with contemporary first-hand accounts. They remain reports, traditions and testimony rather than established evidence of haunting.
