Haunted Neath gathers reported apparitions, strange sightings and unexplained incidents from the town and its surrounding area. Robert King examines stories associated with streets, cemeteries, alehouses and historic sites, including a drowning man off Morfa Beach apparently aided by a mysterious presence, a smashed mirror at the old Victoria Pub and an eerie Victorian policeman seen in Old Market Street.
Neath Abbey features in accounts of ghostly monks, while other stories draw on the town’s pubs, burial grounds and everyday locations. King assembled many of these reports over four decades, presenting local testimony alongside old picture postcards and modern photographs. The result is a record of Neath’s ghost traditions, rooted in particular places and the memories attached to them.
