Legends of Dorset

Legends of Dorset gathers traditional stories and beliefs associated with the county, presenting Dorset as a landscape shaped by local memory, oral tradition and inherited lore. Polly Lloyd’s collection belongs to the regional folklore tradition of recording tales connected with particular places and communities.

The book offers a compact account of Dorset’s legendary heritage rather than a modern investigation of paranormal claims. Its subject is the county’s store of remembered narratives: stories rooted in the landscape, passed between generations and preserved as part of local culture. Published by Bossiney in 1988, it sits alongside other county-focused folklore books and provides a concise introduction to Dorset’s traditional legends.
