Mysterious Gloucestershire

Mysterious Gloucestershire presents an A–Z survey of the county’s towns and villages, bringing together places, stories and reported events associated with its darker folklore. Mark Turner examines crumbling manor houses, castles, ruins, ancient woods and old trackways where standing stones and forgotten tombstones contribute to local traditions.

Alongside these historical and landscape curiosities are accounts of hauntings, ghostly activity, UFO sightings, mysterious creatures and occasional crop circles. The book also recounts several particularly gruesome murders from the past, described as remaining unsolved. Together, these reports and traditions form a portrait of Gloucestershire shaped by stories of the unexplained, strange encounters and crimes that have entered the county’s folklore.
