Norfolk Folk Tales for Children

Norfolk Folk Tales for Children gathers traditional stories reworked by professional storyteller and historian Dave Tonge. The tales draw on the county’s places, people and distinctive dialect, while introducing younger readers to the way folklore changes through retelling.

The collection includes accounts of dangerous dogs, wicked wyrms, penniless pedlars and lanky lads, alongside stories whose origins are linked to travellers and Viking raiders. Each tale is accompanied by snippets of local history, placing the storytelling within Norfolk’s landscape and past. Fact, fiction, truth and invention are allowed to overlap, presenting the county’s folklore as a living mixture of inherited traditions, local adaptations and memorable characters.
