Northamptonshire Folk Tales

Kevan Manwaring gathers Northamptonshire stories spanning local history, legend, ghost tradition and myth. The collection includes the Great Fire of Northampton, a farmer who outwits a bogle, and the reported last execution of witches in England.

Its cast ranges from Boudicca, St Patrick, Robin Hood and Hereward the Wake to cobblers, kings, beasts and angels. Among the darker material is the Grey Lady of Delapré, linked with the former nunnery and later house at Delapré Abbey. Illustrated throughout, the book presents tales rooted in the county’s places and traditions, with a storytelling style suited to reading aloud or adapting for live performance.
