Scottish Ghost Stories

Scottish Ghost Stories gathers 16 reported cases linked to places across Scotland, from Pitlochry and Edinburgh to Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee and Glamis. Elliott O’Donnell presents accounts associated with houses, hotels, castles, roads and battlefields, preserving the names and settings attached to each tradition.

Among the subjects are the Death Bogle of the crossroads, an inextinguishable candle at Pitlochry’s Old White House, the phantom regiment of Killiecrankie, Pearlin’ Jean of Allanbank and the Drummer of Cortachy. Other cases concern a haunted bath, a choking ghost, the Grey Piper of Donalgowerie House, and the floating head of an inn near Dundee, giving the collection a distinctly local and place-bound character.
