Tyrone Folk Tales

Tyrone Folk Tales gathers traditional stories linked to County Tyrone, drawing on the county’s landscapes, history and storytelling traditions. The collection ranges from the Sperrin Mountains in the west to the flat peatlands of the east, presenting tales shaped by both place and memory.

Among its accounts are the giant Finn McCool’s astonishing feats, the derring-do surrounding the Red Hand of Ulster, and the grim story of Half-Hung MacNaughton. Lighter material includes Dixon from Dungannon’s encounter with royalty, while ghostly traditions include reports from Lissan House and the celebrated story of Lord Tyrone’s apparition.
