Antrim Folk Tales

Antrim Folk Tales gathers stories associated with County Antrim, from Irish mythological figures to local characters and supernatural traditions. Conal Cearnach is linked with Dunseverick Castle, while Deirdre of the Sorrows is remembered through Carraig Usnach near Ballycastle. The collection also introduces the outlaw Naoise O’Haughan and the local figure Cosh-a-Day.

Alongside these legendary figures are accounts of rural customs and superstitions, including tales of witches, fairies and other uncanny forces. The mermaid of Portmuck, the banshee of Shane’s Castle and ghostly happenings in Belfast all feature among stories shaped by the county’s varied landscape, from its mountains and fertile lowlands to the dramatic Antrim coast.
