Staffordshire Folk Tales

Staffordshire Folk Tales gathers thirty stories rooted in the county’s oral tradition, retold by local storyteller Johnny Gillett, known as The Journey Man. Together they reflect Staffordshire’s character, local wisdom and recurring comic or cautionary themes.

The collection ranges from tales of mythical heroes to accounts involving demons, dragons, boggarts and brownies. Its stories are grounded in the county’s varied landscape, including moorlands, forests and fertile plains, while twenty-five line drawings add visual context. The result is a regional anthology centred on the beliefs, imagination and storytelling traditions associated with Staffordshire.
