Paranormal Purbeck

David Leadbetter’s study gathers reported paranormal experiences from across the Isle of Purbeck, drawing on testimony from more than 100 local contributors and nearly 70 locations. The accounts range from hauntings and poltergeist-like incidents to near-death and out-of-body experiences, UFO sightings, precognition, time-slips and synchronicities.

The geographical chapters cover Studland, Swanage, Langton Matravers, Corfe Castle and Wareham, while a substantial section focuses on reported activity at the Royal Oak in Swanage. Leadbetter also considers recurring patterns in the stories, alongside scientific perspectives and questions about what such experiences might mean. The book presents these narratives as personal reports rather than established fact, leaving their interpretation open while recording a distinctive body of modern Purbeck folklore.
