Book Reviews at Spooky Isles

Since 2011, Spooky Isles has been dedicated to exploring ghosts, hauntings, folklore and dark history from across the UK and Ireland.

Books are a big part of how these stories are told, and we’re always interested in reviewing new titles that fit our themes.

What we review

We welcome non-fiction books that genuinely add to the conversation around the paranormal and dark heritage of Britain and Ireland. This includes:

  • Investigations into hauntings, ghost sightings and unexplained phenomena
  • Folklore, myths and legends rooted in British or Irish culture
  • Studies of witchcraft, witch trials, pagan traditions and occult practices
  • Works on dark history, crime, punishment and unusual traditions
  • Scholarly or well-researched publications that shed light on our haunted past

We may also occasionally review a general or international ghost book, but only if it includes a significant section on British or Irish cases.

Fiction policy

We receive many requests from authors of novels and ghost stories. While we appreciate the effort involved, fiction is not our priority. We do not review overseas fiction at all.

Please note, we will review books about fiction, ie. non-fictions books about Dracula, Frankenstein and other classic horror novels are always welcome.

If your book does not have a clear link to Britain or Ireland, please do not send it.

How we review

  • Reviews are written for our readers, not for promotional blurbs. That means they are honest, independent and critical where necessary.
  • We cannot guarantee a positive review, but we always aim to be fair.
  • Reviews are published on Spooky Isles, and may also be shared through our social media channels and newsletter if appropriate.

Important notes

  • Sending us a copy does not guarantee that we will publish a review.
  • We accept both print and digital copies.
  • If you’d like to send us a hard copy, please contact us first and we will provide our mailing details.
  • Please do not send us overseas fiction or books without a clear connection to Britain or Ireland — they will not be reviewed.

How to submit

If you’d like your book to be considered, please email us with:

  • The book’s title and author
  • A short description (a press release or blurb is fine)
  • How we can receive a review copy (print or digital)
  • Any relevant publication details (publisher, ISBN, release date)
