Haunted Worcestershire

Anthony Poulton-Smith’s A–Z survey gathers reported hauntings from across Worcestershire, combining historical material with interviews conducted with local witnesses. The accounts range from apparitions and poltergeist activity to unexplained sounds, sudden chills and stories involving ghostly animals. Locations include Worcester, Bewdley, Droitwich, Bromsgrove, Tenbury Wells and Stourport-on-Severn, alongside pubs, churches, estates, public buildings and private homes.

Among the cases are the Grey Lady associated with the Manor Arms at Abberley, a spectral crow reputed to guard Bransil Castle, and reports from investigations at Bordesley Hall. The book records experiences described by witnesses without insisting on a single explanation, noting that some accounts were frightening while others were regarded with indifference, amusement or continued scepticism.
