Taffy Thomas gathers twenty folk tales rooted in the landscapes and communities of Cumbria. Dragons appear around Scafell Pike and Rydal Cave, while Grasmere provides settings for tales of cat fishers, a ghost, a swan and the gingerbread man. Other stories reach Troutbeck, Cartmel, Ulverston, Carlisle Castle and Honister Crag, bringing local places into the storytelling.

The collection ranges from fairy boots and magical orchards to smugglers, a giant and a face-pulling competition. Thomas identifies the location of each tale and introduces the stories in his own voice, connecting them with the customs and landscapes that shaped them. Cumbrian illustrator Steven Gregg provides the accompanying artwork.
