Legends of the Stars

Legends of the Stars retells the ancient Greek stories attached to familiar constellations and shows how those star patterns can be recognised overhead. Sir Patrick Moore covers figures including Orion, the great hunter, and the Scorpion that became his nemesis, alongside Pegasus, the flying horse, and the Argo, Jason’s ship.

The book also recounts tales involving Perseus and the Gorgon’s head, Arion, Cerberus and the chariot of the Sun, before turning to the Northern Bears. Moore links each myth to the stars that bear its name, combining traditional storytelling with practical guidance on identifying the formations in the night sky. Black-and-white illustrations accompany this compact account of celestial mythology.
