The Mighty Goddess

The Mighty Goddess gathers 52 myths from around the world, retold with goddesses at the centre of stories shaped by desire, love, death, destruction, transformation and rebirth. The collection travels from Alaska and Mesopotamia to ancient Rome and Tibet, presenting divine figures as creators, virgins, lovers, mothers, warriors and crones.

Sally Pomme Clayton reworks these traditional narratives in poetic language, bringing familiar, forgotten and less widely known goddesses into new literary forms. Sophie Herxheimer’s 52 original papercuts accompany the stories, setting stark, handmade images against tales that move between the ordinary and the fabulous. Written for adults, the book offers a wide-ranging gathering of goddess mythology through words and visual art.
