Stories of Old Ireland for Children

Stories of Old Ireland for Children brings together traditional Irish tales adapted for younger readers, with legendary heroes, warriors and adventures at their centre. Several stories follow Fionn MacCumhaill and the Fianna, the renowned band whose exploits carry them far beyond Ireland. Their world includes encounters with kings, strange challenges and figures from Ireland’s older storytelling tradition.

Among the named tales are Fionn MacCumhaill and the Feathers from China, King Cormac’s Fighting Academy and Fionn and the Mermaids. Eddie Lenihan presents these stories as lively narrative retellings, preserving their emphasis on courage, wit, loyalty and adventure. The collection offers an accessible introduction to Irish legendary storytelling, particularly the tales surrounding Fionn and the Fianna.
