Wigan

Wigan is a borough in the west of Greater Manchester, centred on the town of Wigan and also including Leigh, Ashton-in-Makerfield, Hindley, Atherton, Tyldesley, Standish, Golborne, and Shevington. Once a heartland of coal mining and canals — and, of course, famous for its pies — Wigan has a darker side too. Its old inns and public houses are rife with ghost stories, while nearby woodland is said to echo with the cries of restless spirits from the borough’s turbulent industrial past.
