Dancing with Trees

Dancing with Trees gathers retold folk tales from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, tracing old connections between people, place and the more-than-human world. Its stories draw on a range of traditions, including Celtic, Norse, Aesopic, Traveller and Christian folklore.

Birds, animals, trees and other elements of the natural world take central roles in tales shaped by ideas of kinship, responsibility and living alongside the land. The collection includes stories such as St Mungo and the Robin, St Brigid and the Wolf, and The Tree with Three Fruits. Thirty original black-and-white illustrations accompany the text, which also includes source notes and a natural history index.
