Lanarkshire Folk Tales

Lanarkshire Folk Tales gathers legends and traditional stories from across one of Scotland’s historic counties, ranging across fourteen centuries of local history and happenings. Allison Galbraith brings together tales connected with Lanark, Glasgow, Dolphinton and other parts of the region.

The collection includes traditions of William Wallace’s love and loss, Saint Mungo’s conflict with pagan authorities and Druids, and a Glasgow vampire said to have iron teeth. Alongside these historical and religious legends are accounts of a cantankerous brownie, warlocks, herb-wives, totemic animals, distinctive Scottish plants and creatures, and the tricks of elfin beings. Galbraith draws on her experience as a storyteller and her long study of Scottish folklore.
