Legends and Stories of Ireland

Legends and Stories of Ireland gathers Samuel Lover’s tales of Irish people, places and traditions, blending folklore with humour, local colour and spoken idiom. Its stories include “Barny O’Reirdon, the Navigator”, “The Burial of the Tithe” and “The White Horse of the Peppers”, alongside the chivalric tale of Duleek Gate and the curse associated with Kishogue.

Fairy and supernatural material appears in “The Fairy Finder”, “The Leprechaun and the Genius” and “Little Fairly”, while “The Spanish Boar and the Irish Bull” offers a playful zoological puzzle. Across the collection, Lover presents Ireland through legendary episodes, comic encounters and vividly voiced characters, preserving the flavour of 19th-century Irish oral storytelling.
