Haunted Newcastle

Haunted Newcastle gathers more than 45 reported ghost stories from the city centre and nearby areas, linking folklore and haunting claims to Newcastle’s historic streets and buildings. The accounts range from poltergeists, apparitions and curses to the curious case described as the ghost of a living person.

Ritson’s tour moves through old city walls, cobbled back streets and narrow chares, then into graveyards, museums, stately halls, pubs, parks and monasteries. The settings give each narrative a strong sense of place, while the collection reflects the author’s long study of Newcastle’s ghosts and legends. Together, these stories present a local record of supernatural tradition rooted in the city’s layered past.
