Gothick Cornwall

Gothick Cornwall gathers accounts of Cornish myths, mysteries, spectres and superstitions, alongside stories of crimes and calamities associated with the county. Jennifer Westwood presents Cornwall as a landscape shaped not only by its history and folklore, but also by the tales attached to its places and communities.

Part of the Gothick Guides series, the book belongs to a county-by-county body of research intended to balance accessibility with scholarly interest. Its material treats supernatural subjects as reported traditions and beliefs, setting them within Cornwall’s wider culture of legend, memory and local storytelling. The result is a concise reference work for readers interested in the darker side of Cornish folklore and history.
