North Cornwall Fairies and Legends

North Cornwall Fairies and Legends gathers 13 folklore-based tales centred on Cornish piskeys, fairy folk and local legends. Enys Tregarthen places these accounts in recognisable landscapes, including Tintagel, Padstow, Rough Tor and Dozmare Pool, where traditional beliefs intersect with everyday life.

The collection includes the legend of the Padstow Doombar, stories of piskeys taking revenge or helping with household work, and encounters involving the Small People’s Fair. Other tales feature the Old Sky Woman, the little horses and horsemen of Padstow, and a fairy whirlwind. An introduction and concluding notes frame the stories as material rooted in local folklore, preserving a distinctive record of North Cornwall’s traditional imaginative world.
