The Treasury of Folklore: Waterlands, Wooded Worlds and Starry Skies

The Treasury of Folklore: Waterlands, Wooded Worlds and Starry Skies gathers myths, legends, folk tales and traditions shaped by seas, skies and woodlands. Dee Dee Chainey and Willow Winsham range across countries and continents, tracing the stories people have used to interpret the natural world and their place within it.

The waterlands section brings together sirens and sea monsters, while the skies reveal Pegasus, the Firebird, storm lore, meteors, the Northern Lights and reports of UFOs. Woodland traditions introduce spirits among the trees, cannibalistic children carved from logs and the familiar threat of the Big Bad Wolf. Solar deities include Japan’s Amaterasu and Lithuania’s Saule, placing local traditions within a broad international folklore landscape.
