Encounter in Rendlesham Forest: The Inside Story of the World's Best-Documented UFO Incident

Encounter in Rendlesham Forest examines the December 1980 reports from Rendlesham Forest, close to the US Air Force bases at Bentwaters and Woodbridge in Suffolk. Nick Pope works with former personnel John Burroughs and Jim Penniston to set out their accounts of the lights, the reported craft and the investigations that followed.

The book brings together witness debriefings, official memoranda and documents released through Freedom of Information requests. It also considers the incident’s continuing aftermath, including Charles Halt’s role, rumours surrounding the case, claims of a binary-code message and competing sceptical and exotic explanations. Alongside the reported encounters, Pope examines what the episode may reveal about military procedures, government responses and the handling of UFO reports.
