800 Years of Haunted Liverpool gathers reported ghost stories and paranormal accounts from across the city and surrounding Merseyside. John Reppion arranges the material geographically, moving through North, South, East and Central Liverpool before widening the scope to Mysterious Merseyside. The settings range from streets, cemeteries and public houses to attics, docks and historic buildings.
Among the accounts are the Grey Lady of Speke Hall, a poltergeist said to have scrawled “I want you out” on a blackboard in Hunts Cross, and reports of Spring-Heeled Jack terrorising Everton during the 1830s. Historical and contemporary sources are accompanied by photographs, maps and drawings, creating a locally focused record of Liverpool’s ghost lore and supernatural traditions.
