Folk Tales for Bold Girls

Fiona Collins retells 14 traditional tales from around the world, placing clever, brave and resourceful girls at their centre. These are not stories of princesses waiting for rescue, but accounts of young heroines who face danger, solve problems and help others through courage, ingenuity and friendship.

The collection includes Vasilisa, who enters the deep dark forest without fear; Mollie Whuppie, who outwits a giant; Tipingi, who relies on her friends in trouble; and Seren, whose singing helps those around her. Collins, a professional storyteller, reshapes the old narratives in accessible versions for children aged seven to 12, with illustrations by Ed Fisher accompanying the tales.
