Wrexham County Folk Tales gathers stories rooted in the county borough’s landscape, communities and oral traditions. Fiona Collins combines tales passed down by word of mouth with archive material, covering animals, people and supernatural beings. The collection ranges from local legends and mysteries to accounts of ordinary people involved in extraordinary events, preserving the variety of Wrexham’s storytelling heritage.
The stories are arranged around specific places, including Bangor-on-Dee, Brymbo, Chirk, Gresford, Hanmer, Minera and Wrexham. Subjects include mining and wartime tales, encounters with fair folk, a reported Wrexham werewolf, witches, ghosts and historical characters. The text is accompanied by illustrations from local artist Ed Fisher.
