Footsteps from Another World

Footsteps from Another World is Dáithí Ó hÓgáin’s sole collection of poetry written in English, drawing on Celtic legendary cycles and the author’s deep knowledge of folklore. Its poems bring mythic heritage into a modern literary setting, with heroes, druids, fairies and seers among the recurring figures.

The collection uses colloquial phrasing alongside vivid imagery, connecting legendary narratives with Ó hÓgáin’s wider interests in Irish tradition and cultural memory. Rather than presenting folklore as simple background, the poems give older figures and stories an active presence, suggesting how myth continues to shape imagination. Ó hÓgáin’s experience as a folklorist informs the work, while its English language makes this strand of his poetry accessible beyond Irish-language collections.
