Gothick Norfolk

Gothick Norfolk presents a folklore and local-history guide to the county, bringing together traditions, legends and reported supernatural associations connected with Norfolk places. It forms part of Jennifer Westwood’s Gothick Guides series, alongside books on Hertfordshire and Cornwall, and reflects her interest in making carefully researched folklore accessible beyond specialist audiences.

The book places Norfolk’s stories within their local settings, linking popular belief with the landscape, buildings and communities that preserved it. Its subject sits within Westwood’s wider work on British legend, alongside Albion: Guide to Legendary Britain and later collaborations on England’s folklore. The emphasis is on documented traditions and reported accounts rather than presenting supernatural claims as established fact, giving the volume both reference value and a strong sense of place.
