Haunted Blackpool

Haunted Blackpool

About this book

Haunted Blackpool sets reported ghost stories against the changing history of Lancashire’s best-known seaside resort. Stephen Mercer traces Blackpool’s growth from a small coastal settlement, then turns to accounts linked with landmarks including Blackpool Tower, the Grand Theatre and the Opera House.

Among the cases are sightings of a uniformed man waving a gas lamp beside the Lytham Road tramway, sometimes seen by passengers who reported that the driver carried on without reacting. Other stories concern Tram No. 702, said to appear at stops despite no longer running on the town’s tracks. Drawing on historical and contemporary sources, Mercer also includes accounts that had not previously been published.
