Pembrokeshire Folk Tales

Christine Willison gathers tales from across Pembrokeshire, linking local landscapes with stories of saints, princes, smugglers and legendary creatures. The collection includes episodes from the Mabinogion, traditions surrounding Saint David and Owain Glyndŵr, and accounts associated with places including St Dogmaels, the Preseli Hills, Narberth and St David’s.

Mermaids warn fishermen of approaching storms, the Afanc troubles Brynberian, and haunted vessels, pirates and kidnapped princesses add darker strands to the county’s storytelling tradition. The book also preserves Welsh and English forms of place names, with a pronunciation guide and supporting notes that help situate the tales within Pembrokeshire’s geography and cultural history.
