The Dark Spirit: Sinister Portraits from Celtic History

The Dark Spirit presents a selection of sinister figures, beliefs and episodes drawn from Celtic folklore and mythology. Bob Curran considers the darker side of Celtic tradition, bringing together portraits of beings, stories and historical imaginings associated with fear, death and the unseen world.

The book treats its material as a mixture of inherited lore, legend and historical belief rather than established supernatural fact. Illustrated by Andrew Whitson, it offers a broad introduction to the shadowed corners of Celtic tradition, supported by a bibliography and index for readers wishing to place its accounts within the wider study of Celtic folklore.
