Tree Folk

Tree Folk gathers folk tales, songs and lore connected with the trees of Britain and Ireland. Lisa Schneidau follows the wheel of the year, tracing a living tradition shaped by seasonal change and the enduring presence of trees in island landscapes. Oak, rowan, spruce and plane appear within a wider heritage of stories, history, knowledge and song.

Written by a professional storyteller and trained ecologist, the book brings together material rooted in rural magic as well as modern myth. Its tree-folk are presented through the changing relationship between people, stories and the natural world, showing how old tales can be reworked, shared and carried into the present.
