Worlds of Arthur

Worlds of Arthur examines King Arthur’s uncertain place in history alongside his growth into one of Britain’s most enduring legendary figures. It considers the evidence for a historical Arthur before tracing the stories through medieval Welsh sources and later traditions.

The book follows the development of Arthurian romance in France, including the influence of courtly love, then turns to Thomas Malory’s Le Morte D’Arthur and the Tudor use of Arthurian history. Illustrations, a gazetteer of Arthurian sites, a bibliography and an index add reference value to this compact account of Arthur’s changing roles in history, literature and culture.
