Haunted Surrey

Haunted Surrey gathers reported apparitions, hauntings and related supernatural accounts from locations across the county. Rupert Matthews draws on historical and contemporary sources, bringing together both familiar legends and less widely known stories connected with Surrey’s buildings, roads and landmarks.

Among the accounts are ghostly monks associated with Newark Priory, spirit riders said to appear on the Hog’s Back, and a reported naked apparition at the Silent Pool. Kenley railway station features alleged appearances in 1930s clothing, while Cobham is linked with stories concerning the notorious old rake Field Marshal Ligonier.
