Familiar Spirits

Familiar Spirits: Sexual Hauntings Through the Ages gathers more than 40 reported cases involving erotic encounters, intrusive apparitions and spirits associated with sexual activity. Colin Waters ranges from accounts of harmless naked figures to darker stories in which frightening entities are linked with death and destruction.

The collection includes the Phantom Groper of Borley Rectory, where witnesses reportedly described a ghostly presence molesting sleepers in one bedroom. The cases are presented as accounts and claims rather than established fact, combining unsettling testimony with the stranger edges of British ghost-lore. Its focus is narrower than a general haunting survey, concentrating on apparitions, visitations and experiences in which sexuality becomes central to the story.
