Haunted Herefordshire

Rupert Matthews collects reported hauntings and ghost stories from across Herefordshire, connecting supernatural traditions with the county’s historic houses, towns and countryside. The book includes accounts associated with Croft Castle near Leominster, where apparitions have been linked to the castle’s long history and Welsh connections.

Other stories are tied to Ledbury, including a reported apparition of composer Jack Moeran after his death in 1952. Alongside named locations, Matthews records the local traditions and remembered encounters that have gathered around Herefordshire’s older buildings and landscapes. The result is a compact regional survey of ghost lore, presenting apparitions as reported experiences and inherited stories rather than established fact.
