Haunted Wiltshire

Haunted Wiltshire gathers reported ghost stories from the county’s historic buildings, ancient sites and rural landscapes. Keith Wills covers claimed manifestations at Devizes Castle, a supposed haunting by a dwarf at Lacock Abbey and a white cat said to stalk walkers along the Ridgeway. Avebury Manor features a Lady in White associated with a lover lost during the Civil Wars, while the Cross Guns Inn at Avoncliff is linked to reports of a Blue Lady appearing in the ladies’ toilets.

The collection also includes accounts of poltergeist activity, unexplained noises, mysterious shadows and other unsettling encounters. Wills draws on newspaper reports, first-hand testimony, research and interviews with people connected to the locations, placing these stories within Wiltshire’s inns, churches, theatres, burial barrows and country houses.
