Scottish Spectres

Scottish Spectres brings together more than 200 reported hauntings from across Scotland, ranging geographically from the Borders to Shetland. Dane Love gathers accounts of apparitions and other spectral encounters alongside descriptions of the places with which they are associated.

The material is rooted largely in eyewitness testimony, with stories presented in a plain, matter-of-fact style rather than embellished for dramatic effect. That approach gives the collection the character of a record of local reports: incidents recalled by people who experienced or heard about them, and locations carrying a reputation for haunting. The result is a broad survey of Scottish ghost lore, linking personal testimony with the landscapes and buildings where these accounts have taken hold.
