The Journal of a Ghosthunter

The Journal of a Ghosthunter follows Simon Marsden on a year-long search for reported supernatural sites, beginning in southern Ireland and travelling through the British Isles, France and Germany to Transylvania. Castles, palaces and ruins provide the settings for accounts involving ghosts, ghouls, vampires and other creatures of the night.

Marsden combines his own atmospheric black-and-white photographs with prose reflecting on belief in an afterlife and the stories attached to historic places. The book treats its subject through folklore, local tradition and reported encounters, moving from familiar haunted landscapes to the darker legends associated with Transylvania. Its focus is as much on the atmosphere of old buildings and ruins as on the claims made about them.
