Haunted Wigan

Haunted Wigan gathers reported ghost stories from the town and surrounding region, drawing on both historical and contemporary sources. Its settings include former cotton mills and public houses, places associated with Wigan’s industrial and social history.

The accounts range from apparitions and poltergeist activity to reports of phantom creatures. Sarah Carberry and Nicola Johnson also include tales described as previously unpublished, presenting local stories that have circulated through records, recollections and later investigation. Together, they portray a darker side of Wigan through reports of unsettling encounters linked to familiar buildings and locations, while keeping the focus firmly on the traditions and testimony attached to them.
