Sweeney Todd 2007

TITLE: Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
YEAR RELEASED: 2007
DIRECTOR: Tim Burton
CAST: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall, Sacha Baron Cohen
PLOT: Famed Stephen Sondheim musical about a barber corruptibly sentenced to a life of hard labour in Australia who returns to London 15 years later to take his revenge by setting up shop above a bakery where he provides “fresh ingredients” for the pies.
MORAL OF THE STORY: Don’t mess with anyone with easy access to razor blades.

FUN FACT:  The character Sweeney Todd first appeared committing his razor crimes in a serialised Victorian “penny dreadful” in 1846. The original story is set in 1785 – three years before the first fleet arrived in Australia.

140-WORD MINI REVIEW: Blood flows thick and bright red against grey Victorian London in this grisly, Burton-directed Sondheim horror musical.
